The Somerville Public Schools offers free developmental screenings for 3 and 4 year olds not yet enrolled in the public schools. The next screening date is June 24th. Learn more about the recent trip to China taken by Somerville High School teacher Mark Quinones over April vacation week. Quinones visited one of the nation's largest trading partner as part of a teacher study team organized by Primary Source. Dr. Anne Foley, Principal of the John F. Kennedy School will take a similar teacher/study trip to China over the summer.

the Somerville Public Schools would be grateful for a letter of endorsement from you to include with our application to become an approved Supplemental Education Services provider with the Commonwealth. If we are successful in this application the district could potentially recoup up to $100,000 in elementary academic tutoring funds now distributed to outside vendors.

Learn more about the Unidos program at the February 3rd Open House/Tour at the Capuano Early Childhood Center (150 Glen Street). The Open House starts at 8:30 am.
Families of children who will be 5 by August 31, 2009 are invited to learn more about the Unidos program at this open house. Unidos is a bi-cultural/bi-lingual program where students in Grades K-8 learn core content in both English and Spanish.

The Food Services Department is starting a Student Advisory Board in February to give students the opportunity to voice their thoughts about school meals. Students will meet with the Food Service Director and Nutrition Outreach Coordinator on a monthly basis to advise on the school breakfast and lunch program through the rest of the school year. Pleasant Auto School and Somerville Adult Evening School have teamed up to provide a 5 week driver's education course for any teens or adults with a learner's permit. Students receive 30 hours of classroom instruction, twelve hours of Road Lessons, six hours of observation time.

Crossing guards are posted at the following corners every school day to make help students safely walk or bike to school. Each corner is staffed from approximately 7:30-8:30 AM and again from 2:25-3:00 PM.
