Jonathan Kozol has spent many years in schools that serve children of poverty, writing a series of powerful books that began with Death At An Early Age about his experiences as a Boston teacher.
Kozol will speak on Wednesday, September 19, about the nation-wide battle over public education that’s focused today on the Chicago teachers strike but affects every school in the country. The MCAS testing and test-prep in Somerville schools, and the proposal for a new charter school, are the local incarnations of that national conflict.
Kozol’s talk will be at 7:30 pm in Memorial Church in Harvard Yard. The talk is sponsored by Citizens for Public Schools. Tickets are $12.
He’s an amazing writer and speaker.
Kozol’s new book, Fire in the Ashes: Twenty-Five Years Among the Poor Children in America, will be available for purchase and signing by the author. Register for the talk here. Consider becoming a CPS member at the same time.
