The City is working to improve the Davis Square streetscape and wants your ideas for upgrades that will provide safer, easier travel through the area—whether driving, walking, or cycling—as well as enhance the visual appeal of the square.
With the support of Mayor Curtatone and Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz, the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) has already hosted two meetings this summer to gather ideas from residents for the improvements. During a project walk-about and a project charette (a sort of design brainstorming session), we got some great suggestions. Among the top priorities discussed so far are wider sidewalks, reconfigured traffic signals and crosswalks, and increased public amenities such as seating and landscaping. Upgrades and increases to public amenities such as landscaping and benches were also proposed and discussed.
More Meetings Coming Up
Two more meetings will be held this summer, and your input can help. At the first meeting on July 17th (6-7 p.m. in the Tufts Administration Building), we'll show the preliminary ideas for the improvements and gather additional public feedback. At a final meeting on August 7the (6-7 p.m.o at the Tufts Admin Building), more fully developed concepts based on input from the first three meetings will be presented by City staff and consultants. .
