One Response to “3/20/12 Somerville Redevelopment Authority Meeting”

  1. Beat Report: 3/20/12 Somerville Redevelopment Authority Meeting

[Present: James McCarthy, Ann Nancy Busnach, Iwona Bonney, William Gage, city staff]

    Bottom Line on Top

258 Somerville Ave. acquisition held up by minor administrative issue. Avalon Bay closed about a month ago. Assembly Row is close to building permits. Ground-breaking for the T-stop and the three Assembly Row blocks planned sometime in April. Bond documents were issued; the city owes $15 M to FRIT, to pay by the end of May. The city is discussing with the T acquisitions in Union Square, T-stop to open by December 2016. The city has applied for a revitalization grant for moving the library to Union Square.

    Rough Notes

    Approved minutes.

    258 Somerville Ave. Status

Acquisition held up by lack of signature by SRA, I believe on requisition for payment.

    Assembly Square Status

Close to building permits. Block 10 permits already issued. To arrange for ground breaking for T-stop and 3 blocks at same time, sometime in April. Governor, senators, etc. to come. Went to demolition of Good Time Billiards. Directors of chamber only invited to one opening, said “don’t want to come back until it’s real.” Discussing with FRIT the street names (can’t use Main Street again). We came up with better names, we think, but need to reconcile it. Want some association with groundbreaking inventions, names that MIT people would recognize. Have finalized usable open space covenant and created a form.

Bond documents issued. We owe $15M to FRIT. Pay end of May. Maintenance agreement in play.

Avalon Bay closed a month ago. To start blocks 1 and 4. Will master condo retail, convey to FRIT. AMC to lease theater. Inclusionary units on site.

    Green Line Extension

Talking to T about acquisitions in Union Sq. To open by Dec. 2016. Noted that T encumbered money for Lechmere in 1988.

    Other:

Library in Union Sq. Applied for revitalization grant. State library trustees. What about old building? (Gibbons).

Next meeting: First week in May. May 3 and 10 (Thurs.) conflicts, so May 1 Tuesday is the next meeting.

    Adjourned 5:37.

[COMMENT: Chairman Busnach objected twice to my typing being noisy. Wanted me to take hand notes or remember main points. I softened my keystrokes but continued.]

[After meeting discussion referred to Msr. Hogans last party (died at 95).]
