Comment Period for Porter Square Zoning Change
Start: 12/15/11
End (Planning Board): 12/30/11 (noon)
End (Land Use Comm.): 1/31/12 (noon)
The City of Somerville is proposing zoning changes to Somerville Avenue from Wilson Square to Porter Square, White Street, and Elm Street from White Street to Wilson Square. Changes include: changing strictly residential zoning to mixed residential-commercial (RC), others to strictly commercial (CCD45, CCD55) with heights up to 45 and 55 feet. Also proposed is up to 70 feet (TOD) in air rights over the Commuter Rail tracks. Neighborhood impacts include traffic and building heights.
While this zoning change can bring definite benefits to the city in tax revenue, some abutters are asking “What’s in it for us?”
