Have you always wanted to know what your alderman really thinks about poverty, immigration, the environment? What if there was an Occupy.Somerville movement–would they support it, and how?

First Church Somerville UCC, a progressive church home for spiritual seekers, is hosting a Candidate Forum on Tuesday, October 25. Candidates for alderman in Somerville, both incumbents and challengers, will engage in a panel discussion dedicated to issues of social justice, such as poverty, immigration, and environmental sustainability. Courtney O’Keefe, First Churcher and popular commentator on political issues in Somerville (http://www.ward5online.com/) will moderate the event. Sweets and a chance to meet the candidates will precede the panel discussion.

What: Candidate Night on Justice Issues in Somerville

Where: First Church Somerville UCC, 89 College Ave, between Davis Square and Powderhouse Circle

When: Tuesday, October 25, 7:30 pm Dessert meet and greet, 8:00pm panel discussion

Who: Incumbent aldermen and challengers, final list TBD

Why: so you can find out how your political representatives think and may act on behalf of you, vulnerable constituents and the land we live on!

For more information about the event contact Courtney O’Keefe at ckokeefe@gmail.com; logistics coordinator, Ian Tosh at ianptosh@gmail.com; or Senior Minister Rev. Molly Baskette at revmolly@yahoo.com.

Thanks for posting, this sounds like it will be a very lively conversation!

Also, this lovely spiritual facility’s members invested in accessibility for all, with a no-step entrance on Francesca Avenue, a small elevator between 1st and 2nd floors, and an accessible bathroom on the ground floor. Kudos!
