Karen Aqua passed away May 30, 2011.  She was a warm, funny, incredible human being and a brilliant artist and animator, and she shared her extraordinary work and process with great candor and kindness in Somerville and elsewhere.

A  growing collection of tributes to Karen can be found on Michael Sporn Animation’s “splog” at http://www.michaelspornanimation.com/splog/?p=2648

A Memorial Tribute to Karen is being planned for the afternoon of either Saturday or Sunday June 18 or 19.  If any readers have any updated information, please let us all know.

A great article by Somerville Patch’s Katie Lannigan about Karen, December 2010: http://somerville.patch.com/articles/karen-aqua-a-twist-of-fate

Patch’s Chris Orchard writes, “Her husband, Field, a musician and composer, often collaborated with Aqua on her films. Somerville Patch left a voicemail message for Field, but he did not return the call at the time of this posting, which was not long after the message was left. His Facebook page was filled with messages from friends wishing to remember Aqua.

Also according to his Facebook page, a memorial service is currently being planned, and it will likely take place on July 10, at 2 p.m., at the Center for Arts at the Armory.”

Such a loss to Somerville and the whole world. She was so young, so lively, and (with her husband) so ubiquitous at local art and music events.
