In the next several weeks, specifications and architectural plans will be sent out as a bid package for contractors to price. As someone familiar with the design of the green roof planned for the building, I fear the current plan is short sighted and not in the best interest of Somerville residents and the students that will occupy the space. The current plan calls for a costly modular system that will provide a nice picture upon installation, but does not consider the cost or the opportunity a green roof has for educating its youth. I urge local politicians and residents to consider an approach that saves us money and creates an outdoor classroom with a built-in-place system!
