The Somerville City Club is inaccessible to wheelchair drivers.

First, although there is a ramp is on the north (left) side of the facility, it does not connect to the HP parking spaces on the south side. The path from HP spot to the door is interrupted by stairs. This issue can be fixed if the left side of the building is level-graded and HP spots are striped into that lot.

But the ramp also needs to be reconstructed in order to be usable.

    1. The ramp has a 2-inch step right at the bottom; it cannot be used independently by any wheelchair users. Please see:

    2. The ramp has a cross slope of 8.1%. This is really unsafe. Maximum cross slope shouldn’t exceed 2%. Please see http://www.flickr.com/photos/21908925@N03/4382611242/

Many organization and political groups rent this private club. Reconstructing this ramp and level-grading and striping the north parking lot for accessible van and car use are not expensive fixes and will make events held in the Somerville City Club’s Cobble Hill Room less discriminatory.

I’m very confused now because the headline and text say December 18 but the calendar entry says December 17.

  5. John-W says:

Thank you both Barry and Ron! Sorry for the confusion. And sorry for the problem of accessibility at the City Club. We’ll mention it to them and try to accommodate people on Friday night (the 17th!) if there are any problems.

John, you also need to fix Centro Presente’s page that says “Saturday, December 17″
