We’re currently running two film series at the Central Library. Family Films, including cartoons and popcorn, are shown one Saturday afternoon per month, and so far they’ve been well attended. We’ve also been showing movies one Thursday evening per month at 6:30 p.m., but we don’t get many people for those, so we’re asking for your suggestions. What would draw you to a free movie at the Library? Specific movies or types of movies? A different day or time? Refreshments? Something else? Please comment with your suggestions!

I’ve seen fliers for lots of films I’d like to see, but I only made it to one. 6:30 is just too early for me, and I hate to miss the beginning, even if I’ve seen the movie before. I know there’s a problem with the library closing at 9, but if a movie is less than 2 hours long, couldn’t it start at 7?

Thanks Paula,
We’ve been trying to get feedback via Facebook, Twitter, our blog (www.somervillepubliclibrary.com/blog), and in person and the little we’ve gotten so far confirms that the 6:30 start time is too early. In 2011, we’ll be starting at 7:00 p.m. instead (we’ll have to be careful to pick shorter films.) We’re also going to switch from Thursday nights to Monday nights because the Library is busier then, regardless of whether we have a program or not. So for the time being the day and time issue has been decided, but we’re still hoping for more suggestions to make the film series a success, especially suggestions about what films or kinds of films people would like to see.
