The staff of Somerville’s anti-poverty agency would like to meet you for dinner.

Flatbread Restaurant holds a benefit for the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) Tuesday evening, November 16.  Eat at the restaurant (45 Day Street in Davis Square) any time from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. and Flatbread will donate a portion of the cost of dinner to CAAS.

Flatbread is located at the site of the former Sacco’s Bowl Haven.  “You can still bowl a game while you’re there.  You can also buy a raffle ticket, and that will benefit CAAS, too,” said Executive Director Kimberly Smith-Cofield.   “This will be a fun and delicious way for the community to support the work of CAAS.  We are looking forward to a lively evening.”

The mission of the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) is to reduce poverty among local families and individuals while working to counteract, and whenever possible eliminate, the societal conditions that cause and perpetuate poverty.  For more information, see www.caasomerville.org.

Hi Dennis, Did the new owners eliminate the one-step barrier to equal access and opportunities here? Sacco’s had one step prior to entering the building, which, as you know, means that the at-least 5.7% Somerville residents with documented mobility impairments (2009 stats) could never enjoy a night out there with friends, etc….

Yes, there is now a ramp that bypasses the step.

Eila, I’m disappointed that you didn’t take the opportunity to come down to check it out and enjoy the evening with all of us. It was indeed a wonderfully, fun event shared by many diverse members of the community including a group who apparently were aware of the accessibility and had several individuals who had physical impairments. Not only did they enjoy the pizza, but they also were bowling! I look forward to joining CAAS at another community event.
