Somerville playwright John Shea, talks with Joe Lynch about his newest work, “WELCOME TO SOMERVILLE, Permit Parking Only”. Shea is a Somerville native, a Huntington Theater Playwriting Fellow, and his plays have received sterling reviews at the National Playwright’s Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

My comment was blocked for personal attacks?
The personal attack being made is by John Shea himself.
But it’s ok that the moderator of this website allows Shea to make personal attacks about a “councilman who molests young boys” when the allegations were proven to be lies and never went anywhere. So MODERATOR, before you censor what I write, try censoring what you air on your website. You won’t allow my comments, yet you allow this man to slander others and stir up controversy to get people to come to his play full of lies. The truth has already been proven, yet you allow things to be brought back from the dead due to your own political preferences.

and to the moderator, you wouldn’t have erased my comments if I had joined the witch hunt on the councilman and his poor family who already had to endure these false accusations until he was cleared of any wrongdoing – keep backstabbing the people you know and karma will return to you in ten-fold.

The truth has already been proven, so for this website to stand behind this man and his lies is ridiculous. These allegations on the “councilman” who you claim molests young boys were proven to be lies. The ONE accuser is a known drug addict, a pathological liar, and a very sick young man who tried to extort a family of good people for money spinning a tale of his homosexual fantasies. And all allegations were proven to be lies. The Somerville and State Police were involved, as well as a private investigator and other state agencies and the investigation is public record as an extortion scheme cooked up by this young man. So look before you leap

at least we know whoever moderates and/or runs this website is against the councilman and his family. If this is about freedom of speech, then let me exercise my rights , be fair and let freedom ring.
But it’s not. This is being made into politics, and this website moderators personal and political preferences should not be allowed to stand in the way of my expression. If you choose to censor me, censor everyone including the pathetic playwright you stand behind.

Hi Sean S,
You do have a right to freedom of speech. If you don’t like our moderation policy, then you are free to post your personal attacks on a different blog.
Moderating your comments does not mean we endorse or defend any claims made in Mr. Shea’s play.
Clearly, you have strong disagreements with parts of this play, and your criticisms are welcome here. But why engage in personal attacks? It just makes you look desperate, as if you don’t think people will believe your arguments by themselves. Sure seems cowardly to do that, especially without having to reveal your full name.

I’m writing a play myself, about a playwright who runs an illegal day care at his home with no permits, spending the day drinking and using drugs while unsuspecting parents pay him to watch their children.
It’s a very intriguing story.. the man takes trips to Europe without his wife or kids, has an ongoing relationship with prostitutes, and stirs up controversy and lies to promote himself and for financial gain.
A man who berates his wife and kids, abuses patrons and bartenders at the local watering holes as he falls off the barstool and drags himself home every night. Exposing his own niece and nephews psychological problems and ridiculing them in attempts to benefit financially from it.
And twisting what has already been established to be lies about a councilman and his family, all in attempts to sell tickets to his minstrel show. A Witch Hunt is a Witch Hunt – what happens when the hunter becomes the hunted? Coming soon- The Playwright! a play by Sean S

Ok, the vitriol that Sean spouts off seems to be a case of someone protesting too much. I just finished watching the interview about the play and nowhere is it said that it’s an attack on the councilman, but a story about how it affected the community and the people involved. It looks to me like Sean may be a little too close to the subject matter, and has yet to let go. Just another case of someone assuming what a story will be from a snippet of conversation. Perhaps Sean should follow his own advice about looking before leaping.

I saw the play last night. Although clearly inspired by a number of recent events in Somerville, it was quite definitely FICTION and it did not portray the fictional accused School Committee member in an unfavorable light.
