Ocean State Job Lot Introductory Meeting
Wed. June 30 7:00 PM
Elizabeth Peabody House
277 Broadway
Somerville MA (map)
This meeting was called by Ocean State Job Lot to introduce themselves as a potential tenant at 299 Broadway, the former Star Market site.
This meeting is important because this use could tie up the site for a long time and affect local property values.
For more information, see Ocean State Job Lot.

Time to refocus all the squeaking and moaning during that went on during the rezoning process: the Worst Case Scenario rears its ugly head.
Ocean State Job Lot? That’s like hitting the longest slide in “Chutes and Ladders”.

Great. I guess if I can’t be bothered to make it all the way down to KMart, I can shop closer to home.
Seriously, is this what that stretch of Broadway is really in need of? There was a substantial effort put forth by the city and its residents towards the rezoning of Broadway, in order to provide for some more mixed-use (read: more tax revenue than retail) development.
Granted, no one will develop that parcel tomorrow, but letting Ocean State Job Lot plop down on a long-term lease is not a good move – look at what letting KMart (and they were going bankrupt!) drive the initial round development at Assembly Square did: I can hit a golf ball from Bed Bath & Beyond over to the *other* Bed Bath & Beyond in Everett.

I say NO TO JOB LOT.
Somerville needs FRESH FOOD, not BOXED FOOD.
Job Lot will bring with it more automobile-based shopping of non-local products. Look at the bigger picture, they are the begining of a domino effect. Keep Job Lot Out of Somerville!
Stop Broadway from becoming Route 1!
