Ames Envelope

Feeling pretty blue that Ames Envelope’s leaving town. Maybe others know different(ly), but it seemed as if this Somerville-based business has been a good neighbor.

A couple of examples to support that:

1. Ames offered in-house literacy classes for its employees, many of whom were El Salvadoran.

2. Back in the day, Ames invited classroom teachers to help ourselves to whatever paper—great paper, very sturdy, lots of colors—had been left over from recent jobs.

Can’t help but worry that like Brockton, like New Bedford, like the cities of The Rust Belt, Somerville’s starting to sing “The Disappearing Industry Blues.”
