Are you a Somerville resident 21-35 years old?

Do you have recommendations to offer to improve city services?

Are you interested in becoming more active in the Somerville community?

Are you interested in getting more Young Somerville residents active in the Somerville community?

If you answered “Yes” to any of those questions, the Young Somerville Advisory Group invites you to attend our 1st Annual Yearly Report and Presentation to Mayor Joe Curtatone.

This event will take place Monday, November 16, 2009 from 7pm-9pm at the Somerville Armory located at 191 Highland Street.   Meet Mayor Joe Curtatone, Alderman, City agencies, and Somerville non-profits at this FREE event!

YSAG is group of 21- to 35-year-old residents working to increase the number of young residents engaged in the civic community, improve the quality of city services offered, and increase communication between city government and the city’s young adults. Its goal is to serve in an advisory capacity to Mayor Curtatone and city staff, initiate and organize activities targeted to its age demographic, and advocate on behalf of fellow young Somerville residents.

For more information on YSAG or the  this exciting event, please visit www.somervillema.gov/youngsomerville or contact Carlene Campbell at ccampbell@somervillema.gov.

I look forward to seeing you there!

One Response to “Young Somerville Advisory Group”

  1. Thanks for sharing this info, James! While I think it’s great that the City is proactively promoting this form of civic engagement, I have a few concerns as well from reading the group’s website:

    1. Why are the meetings closed to the public? To me, this flies in the face of transparency.

    2. Why does this group exclude adults age 18, 19, and 20 who have the right to vote? And how was the range 21-35 chosen?

    3. Why are there only two meeting reports available on the webpage?

    4. The group has several stated goals, but no metrics to quantify progress.

I hope we’ll hear more on this blog about the group’s activities! Thanks!
