Are you ready to be inspired?
This Saturday, October 3, from 10-4 is the annual Green Buildings Open Houses organized by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association. Three Somerville Climate Action members are opening their homes to show what they have done to reduce their carbon footprint, create green jobs, make their homes more comfortable, and save money.
Visit:
- Jeff Fullerton at 21 Josephine Ave
- Garrett Avery at 59 Liberty Ave
- Cador Pricejones at 30 Sycamore St.
We’ve put a lot of work (and love) into our Somerville homes and want to share with you what is possible.
Visit www.NESEA.org for more information.

Hi Vanessa, This sounds so exciting! Are these houses wheelchair-visitable?

Hi Eila,
Thanks for inquiring about wheelchair accessibility. Here are the responses I got from the home-owners:
30 Sycamore Street: most of the work was done on the outside of the house and can be viewed from the street. Some of the work in the basement isn’t wheelchair-visitable.
21 Josephine Avenue: Interior is not wheelchair-visitable. Two outdoor features, pervious driveway pavers and rainbarrel installation are.
59 Liberty Avenue: Homeowner says: “Most of the visible aspects of the project include the roof, the building envelope and what’s in the basement. From inside the house, you couldn’t tell that there was any renovation unless you where really looking. I would, however be more than happy to talk extensively about the project, the process, what informed certain decisions, selection of products and materials to anyone who is interested. If its not raining too heavily, I would be happy to come out to the front of the house to meet someone. I will put my cell phone number of the NESEA sign in front anyway in case I step away for a minute. People can call me as I will be available to whole day.”
If you would like the specs for the Liberty Ave. house, I have them and would be glad to email them to anyone interested. You can ask for them at somervilleclimateaction@gmail.com
Thanks,
Vanessa
