#55 is definitely needed. Too many cars are parked at the corrnwrs of intersections and block the view of oncoming traffic. We have complained about this to our Alderman.

    • Which Alderman did you complain to? Was it Sullivan? I wonder how much it would cost in service time, paint, and signs, to mark every corner for the 20 ft rule in the city? – probably it would be quite expensive.

Taylor is my alderman. I also complained to the parking director after getting a $100 ticket for parking too close to a hydrant. I was 16 feet away. I said why are there no yellow paint markings to indicate where to park/not park and he told me they do not do that anymore and very few cities do it. I also offered to buy the yellow paint if cost was an issue.

    • How did Ald. Taylor respond to your complaint?

I bet the city figures that it can save money by not labeling fire hydrants and thereby increase revenue by catching and ticketing unwitting violators.

Re: Item 16: Yikes! I hope the city doesn’t start cutting down all the linden trees. We’d be the losing a large number of street trees. I admit it puzzles me that the city would plant trees that drop sticky stuff onto cars, but they’re mature trees now and I think we should leave them be. The sticky stuff is the result of an aphid infestation these trees get. Ladybugs love to eat these aphids, but beyond that I’d suggest keeping a spray bottle of water(it’s water soluble)and some paper towels in the car for the few weeks when this is a problem. Cutting the trees down strikes me as an excessive and expensive solution.

    Jonathan:

Take a look at the tree on the corner of Columbus and Walnut. The tree is gigantic and the sidewalk and parking lot for the apartment building is completely messed up. Why does the city feel it is OK to plant trees in the middle of a sidewalk. Do they not know that trees grow and grow and grow? Also, there is another tree on Walnut and Aldersey that does not allow anyone with a stroller or a wheelchair to go down this side of Walnut Street safely.
