On Monday, August 31, 2009 beginning at 6:45 p.m., the Somerville School Committee will conduct a public hearing on the issue of participating in the inter-district-choice program for the 2009-2010 school year.
All members of the public are invited to attend on Monday, August 31, 2009 beginning at 6:45 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chambers on the Second Floor of Somerville City Hall located at 93 Highland Avenue. This hearing will be followed by a regular meeting of the Somerville School Committee.

Thanks for announcing this, Gretchen! This is the first I’m hearing of this, although it has been announced on the SPS District calendar, but not on the city’s online calendar.
Has Somerville participated in this program before? Why is the school committee holding this public hearing? Is it considering approving participation, or perhaps pulling out of the program?
I’d be interested to know what the positives and negatives would be for the City and for Somerville families with such a program versus the status quo.
