‘Roots and Rock’ Music Breaks Out of Jail at Old Somerville Police HQ

Bars on the window and doors no longer exist, but The New Precinct Bar & Restaurant plan to give back through ‘Music Festival 2009′

On Sunday, September 13, 2009, Pabst Blue Ribbon [www.pabstblueribbon.com]  and Precinct Bar and Restaurant [www.precinctbar.com] in Union Square, Somerville, will present  “Music Festival 2009” to benefit RESPOND, Inc., a  New England agency providing safe haven for women and children., and CAAS,(Community Action Agency of Somerville). The event will run from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Performing on center stage will be:
Barrence Whitfield- Barrence Whitfield has achieved and maintained fame and cult status  since the 80s. He is one of New England’s favorite sons and has enjoyed tremendous success in Australia and Europe. His new CD is entitled “Raw, Raw, Rough”. [www.barrencewhitfield.com ]

Jess Tardy- Maine native Jess Tardy, with her Blues-drenched voice and electrifying presence, has been performing locally since 2001. A hit at Montreaux and in Nashville, Tardy has finally returned to her New England roots. [www.jesstardy.com ]

Andrea Gillis - Andrea Gillis was tapped as one of 10 local performers to keep your eye on. Since then she has been nominated for 2 Boston Music Awards and a Maxie. In true Motown spirit, Andrea will rock you to your core. [www.andreagillis.com ]

Jenny Dee and The Delinquents - Jenny Dee and The Delinquents coquettish presence and all-Soul repertoire evoke the all-girl bands of the 60s. This nostalgic trip is sure to captivate you [www.myspace.com/jennydeemusic]

Sea Monsters - Will perform at PRECINCT at 10:00. Stick around and continue to party with this outstanding band

Kiddie Corner - Events for kids include the Bouncy Castle and sodas and healthy snacks from 3-6.

Canine Corner - Massages for your pup. Masseuses will also be available tor humans.

This event continues the tradition of the annual “Roots and Rock” festival sponsored by the beloved but now-defunct Tir na nOg bar.  The Independent and Cantina Mexicana will join PRECINCT in offering a variety of delicious cuisines, and multiple bars.

Admission - $15.00, a portion of which will go to RESPOND, Inc., and the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS).

RESPOND, Inc. is New England’s first domestic violence agency and the 2nd in the nation to provide safe haven for women fleeing abuse. Since 1974, RESPOND, Inc has provided safety and support for over 55,000 women and children [www.respondinc.org/main.html ]

The mission of the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) is to reduce poverty among local families and individuals while working to counteract, and whenever possible eliminate, the societal conditions that cause and perpetuate poverty.  [www.caasomerville.org]
