Hi Vanessa,

Hi Eila,
SHEET stands for the Somerville Home Energy Efficiency Team. It is modeled after Cambridge’s HEET, a group that started over a year ago and that has been very successful gathering volunteers on a regular basis to weatherize homes.
The idea is to get people together to do something concrete about climate change while having fun and learning valuable skills. We’re just starting out and Somerville and will see how much interest there is in the community for this. The people organizing SHEET are Somerville Climate Action members (somervilleclimateaction.org)

Hi Vanessa, this sounds like a great program. Has anyone analyzed approximately how much energy efficiency improvement can be achieved through the weatherization barn-raising? Also, when choosing which homes to weatherize, is any priority given to lower-income folks?

Hi Barry,
The savings really depend on the state of the house and the work done. At the very least, weatherization barnraising work will increase comfort of occupants by seriously reducing drafts.
Re. priority to low-income folks: yes. We’re still gearing up but will be doing serious outreach to do this.
We’ll keep you all posted.
Thanks for those who came to Saturday’s barnraising! You all made a difference.
Vanessa
