Do you have any used or unwanted gadgets at home that you’d like to recycle? Would you also like to help support a great cause at the same time?! We at Somerville Voices are hosting an online gadget recycling drive through Gazelle to raise money for the blog and would love your support! Why?
We need your support to continue improving the blog and online calendar, to develop outreach activities to connect with more parts of the community, and to expand into local news coverage and investigative reporting. This gadget drive is just one way you can support the blog, but others will be coming soon!
How?
A gadget drive is a new way to fundraise that turns your used electronics (laptops, cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras & more) into cash to support a cause. Contributing to my drive is simple. Just visit the drive webpage, find the value of the gadgets you would like to donate, and send them to Gazelle (shipping is FREE). The value will go to support Somerville Voices. You will receive a confirmation of your donation by email, and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.
The drive goal is $500 by August 31st. But there will be other drives to follow.
Visit our drive here : http://somervillevoices02.gazelle.com
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Barry Rafkind and the Somerville Voices team

Barry,
For those who prefer to give cash, please provide instructions. (As much as Somerville Voices appreciates all phones, including your basic, no-frills cellphone, Gazelle can be fussy. If s/he says ‘no thanks,’do not take it to heart; it does not make you a bad person.)
For all of you Low Techies out there,
J. Katz

Thanks, Julie. We hope to soon launch our first community-funded journalism campaign which will be great for people who want to donate money. So stay tuned!
By the way, I just tried to donate two of my old cell phones through Gazelle and found out they had no value. No surprise there! At least they still offered to recycle the phones for me. If anyone has luck in using this service, please leave a comment!
