On Monday the 22nd of June at 7:30 at the Somerville High School the School Committee approved the Welcoming Massachusetts pledge. All the members said “Yes” to the pledge with great enthusiasm—Teresa Cardoso, one of the members of the School Committee, said “The School Committee is proud to support the rich immigrant population of Somerville.” These words were long awaited by all the organizations working on this campaign and especially by the youth that had been working for months to make it all happen. Members of The Welcome Project, Centro Presente and the CCS were at the meeting to witness the moment that will change many immigrant lives, especially those of us, the youth that go to Somerville High School who are stepping forward into a more unified city that helps and supports immigrants.

Clivia, thanks for posting about this! I wasn’t able to attend last night’s meeting, but your post inspired me to look up Welcoming Mass and sign the pledge. I’m glad the School Committee did too.
