The Acting Director of the Office of Somerville Commissions and the Somerville Health Department have announced their plans for the celebration of National PRIDE week.
While the Pride flag will be flying all week on the City Hall Concourse the local LGBT community has expressed a preference for the City to, in lieu of a flag raising ceremony, develop a range of other activities and events throughout the year to more fully integrate the Pride ideal in the day-to-day life of the community.
On July 1, the Commissions’ Office will launch its Facebook page and showcase the new website designs. For more information about upcoming plans and to give comments, contact the Office of Somerville Commissions at 617-625-6600, x2406.

I wonder where Sonia surveyed? As one of the founders of the now pretty defunct OutSomerville, I never knew we wanted “a range of other activities and events throughout the year….” I pretty much expect we wanted continued full funding of the GLBT high school program, which hasn’t happened, and/or a more formal outreach to and with the Somerville police…. But, perhaps I’m not gay enough to count.
