I thought it was strange that Boston was closing schools. I hadn’t heard of any cases in Somerville since that first lady that got it a couple of months ago. So, then when I heard of many absences at the Brown School, I wondered “What could it be?” Now the scuttlebutt from my daughter’s under 14 soccer game sidelines is that a huge number at Kennedy are out with the flu. Apparently, they’ve stopped testing for it and just tell people it must be the dreaded Swine flu. Headache, fever, cough. Rumor has it that half the 8th grade was out recently at the Kennedy. In one class 7 out of 22 were present. They say to be glad if you get it now because it may immunize you for the next round–expected in the fall–which should be much worse. Yay. I have a headache. Double yay.
