Thanks to the hard work of many Somerville Residents, including but not limited to Barry Rafkind, FBerman, EIF, the Jehlens and lots more, SCAT has yet again won Number 1 Nationwide Community Access Television Station presented by the Alliance for Community Media. We are very proud, having been selected best in the country four out of the past five years. (2005, 2006, 2007 and now 2009) Keep it up Somerville! You all rock! Just another reason Somerville deserves to be the next “All American City”.
Again, congrats to all.

  1. Barry Rafkind says:

According to the awards website, it shows SCAT under “Overall Excellence in Public Access – $200,001 – $499,999″. I assume the money range refers to the station’s budget. Note, there were many other categories and winners, so there are still other awards to strive for.

Our neighbor, Cambridge Community Television was recognized in “Overall Excellence in Public Access – $500,000 or more”.

I’d be interested to know more about what criteria were used and what the process was like to select winners.

Anyway, congratulations and keep up the great work!

  2. Wendy Blom says:

It is very exciting to win the award again. Yes, CCTV in Cambridge also won in its category. In fact, MA access centers won in all three public access budget categories because Fall River won as a small center. The awards are based on a thirty-minute compilation reel of snippits of programs that aired in 2008, as well as written information about the center’s activities and the community groups it serves. The other awards are for individual programs. As you can see from the award website, it is quite competitive because access centers enter from all around the country.
