Sorry about the cross-posting, but:
as some of you may know, the Agassiz Cooperative Preschool has been trying to find a home in Somerville since losing its lease in Porter Square after 34 years. Amazingly, they have found a space on Summer Street (corner of Spring and Summer) and if all goes well with the zoning process plan to start demolition soon, bringing 40 more child care slots to Somerville (ages 2 and up). Having send three kids to Agassiz and valuing the deep ties we formed with the community through all the rewarding work it takes to be part of a parent coop, I love the school, and I think its moving here will greatly benefit Somerville. (As far as I’m concerned, the school represents good Somerville values like scrapiness, creativity, commitment, tight community.)
This Wednesday, the school is going before the Zoning Board of Appeals for a special permit. If you support saving 40 childcare slots and bringing this exceptional institution here to Somerville, please take the time to write a letter of support to Dawn Pereira, Administrative Assistant for the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning & Community Development: DPereira@somervillema.gov by tomorrow afternoon (Tues). It’s somewhat of a miracle that Agassiz was able to find a building it could afford, and it would be terrible if the process were derailed at this point in the process. (Please don’t get me started about the putting the needs of cars and parking above the needs of children and families—those snow days so that people had a place to put their cars during the snow emergencies still make me furious six months later.)
Thanks so much—and if you’re looking for a parent co-op with extraordinary teachers (some of whom have been there for more than 20 years!) may I recommend you check out www.agassizpreschool.org.

Is Agassiz proposing a new, purpose-built building? What is the proposed time-frame for completion? When must Agassiz vacate their current premises? It would benefit the community to be provided some pertinent details before being asked to write in with letters of blind support, yet there does not seem to be any information about the move on the Agassiz website.
