The Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS), the designated anti-poverty agency for the City of Somerville, MA, is seeking a Director of Finance and Administration. This position is responsible for managing financial, administrative, human resources and other operational systems and practices and is a key member of the senior management team. Reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial activity including creating and managing an annual budget of $5M,
- Represent CAAS to relevant external stakeholders
- Coordinate CAAS annual audit and preparation of the A-133 audit reports with an independent auditor,
- Monitor grants and contracts including preparation of financial reports as required by funding sources in accordance with grant contracts,
- Formulate and deliver additional standard financial reports useful for the financial management of the agency,
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements,
- Supervise CAAS staff responsible for financial activities and accounting functions,
- Supervise human resource practices and ensure they are conducted in a professional manner,
- Maintain financial management policies, procedures, and controls,
- Train and supervise, staff on fiscal procedures, budget management and use of accounts and software, as needed,
- Work with other directors to develop and track departmental budgets
- Participate in union negotiations, and
- Oversee and negotiate contracts with outside vendors, including healthcare contracts
- Staff Finance Committee of the Board
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.A. degree, relevant advanced degree preferred and 5+ years of financial management experience in non-profit organizations
- Thorough knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices and procedures of non-profit organizations
- Understanding of fund accounting, financial analysis principles and techniques, automated accounting systems, internal controls, payroll and benefit reporting
- Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of people and the ability to communicate technical budget and financial information to the board and staff
- Knowledge of federal and state financial reporting for non-profit organizations
- Familiar with employee labor laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act
- Ability to speak another language preferred.
