If you could change Somerville High, what would you do? Craig Leach’s SHS media class opens a debate this week:

The kid” hates the lunches but loves the wide variety of teachers. “AB1334” loves SHS but not the “busy work” and says there should be more useful courses. Jeff Wairi wants school to start later in the morning. He also  proposes a radical shift in the school program. Aakash wants more freedom to make mistakes and is willing to take the consequences. Jason Corey likes the electives but says many academic classes put students to sleep—they should be more hands-on. “Spera01“‘s ideas for making school more fun include learning through video games, acting out what’s in the books, and more choice about what you study. “vanredgrave13” says, “Come on, people, wake up and say no to stupid decisions,” and she means MCAS. “ratzabc” dreams of a school where “kids aren’t criticized about what they read, their smartness, or even color.” “BrAus” thinks students should learn vintage dances and act out battles in history class, and make models in math.

What do you think of their ideas?
