The absolute first thing I would change about school would be the time. I would push back the time by a few hours. I think if students weren’t half asleep for the first few classes of the day, the teachers would get a better performance from each student.

A more dramatic decision I would make to change the school would be putting each school into a different category. I would have the first year of your high school career to show you all types of categories that are accessible nowadays. There were be one class that would show you what it would be like to be a teacher, a scientist, even some on what it would be like to be a comedian, musician, or a camera man. I think a full year of showing you all types of topics would give you enough time to choose what profession you wanted to follow.

In the years following your freshman year of high school, you could pursue the profession you chose. Since most of the basic learning you need to learn would be taught in your younger years, (like how to read/write, addition/multiplication/etc.) you wouldn’t have be completely oblivious to the world around you. This would make hiring for jobs a lot easier too.

Of course this is only a thought but i think it would a great idea for some school somewhere…

Jeff, what a fabulous idea! In fact, I’ve never heard anyone mention learning comedy in public school before, that’s such a great opening for all sorts of curriculum ideas.

Right now, are there any opportunities for people in the industries and other fields to come and teach regularly at SHS? Or, do you think the after school programs could offer classes like the exciting ones you’re proposing?

How about if you could get course credit for going off campus to study with a professional for a semester or two? You’ve got me thinking!

  3. That’s a pretty good idea. i would’ve never thought of doing that for my school. If that were to happen than kids will already know what they want to do as a profession in the future and they won’t have to think about it or stress over it.
