Day by day, our schools narrow our mind of being wide and free. “I’m bored”, that is what teenagers say the most and me myself being a teenager think it is true. Things are getting boring  nowadays. School was considered to be a second home once. There is a difference between a house and a home. Things are changing and most schools need a little more modification. If i was in charge of Somerville high school, It would just not be me who would carry out a change. A teenager’s mind is very curious and easily distracted. What schools are doing these days are trying to make students focused on just one thing and that is having a good education, going to college and have a good career. Teenagers just cannot focus on one thing and every student wants something different in their lives. More counseling is needed where we have people who do not give advice more but actually listen to what a teenager has to say. We are in a period where we start knowing what is right and wrong and we try certain things that may not be right but it is just our curiosity that drives us into it. Just telling about the wrong things is life will not keep us from not trying it. Supporting our opinions about those opinions no matter how bad the opinion is gives us a boost of confidence. Most students are not close to their parents that much. When that happens, students tend to lose hope on other elders to because when someone is not close to the people who gave them birth, how can they be close to other elders like teachers or counselors. It is just not in us students, but everyone says a phrase “why doesn’t anyone understand me.” from my own experiences i say it is way easier to understand than to be understood. education is just not reading books, giving tests, passing and living a life where you have a career. it is way beyond that. The education that we receive now, look at it, what are the major subjects? math, english, science . these subjects do not broaden our mind, it narrows it more. i am not saying those are not important but even other subjects should be included as being as important as them. Students do not like to be forced into something and i am sure most adults were like that when they  were teenagers. People say they care. Just saying you care does not mean you care. A sense of support, words like “i have faith in you, i believe you, open your mind, i trust you, if you have a problem feel free to say it” just these words can so much change the way we teenagers think. Most of us think we are a bird that is caged and when we see a free bird, we want to be free like them. Well with freedom comes responsibilities, let us learn from our mistakes, do not come to pick us up when we fall, let us learn.  just school is not even close to education

Wow, aakash, your writing is quite poetic.

And i think you are speaking truths that apply across the board to people of all ages and types. We all need that genuine encouragement. And you give voice to the deep human need for a truly listening friend, not just someone giving general advice.

What do you think it takes for a person to become a more genuine friend and even a really good advisor? Do you think those qualities can be encouraged to grow, so that we can listen to each other more sincerely?
