Some kids do well in school all their life, others are late bloomers, and some are strange as in they do well, then badly, then well again. I am one of those strange ones. Here’s my story.

~ Enjoy ~

My grades were good all my life, up until my freshmen year in high school. In elementary school, I got A’s and B’s all the time and I got an award for getting good grades. Once I got to high school, my grades dropped. I started getting C’s and D’s most of the time. I think the reason was that back in elementary school; I hardly ever hung out with friends. And if I did, it was only in school. I had to keep my head focused on getting good grades. I was getting good grades because my parents told me I had to do well in school to have a good life. I believed them, so I did that. But in high school, I started hanging out with friends and focused on being with them rather than on school. I never really had friends when I was younger, so when I got friends in high school, I wanted to be with them instead. It felt awesome being around them so I kept doing that. The more I did that, the more my grades slipped. That was not the only reason my grades slipped, but it was also because I played more video games and for a longer period of time. This was happening for 2 years, from 9th grade to the end of 10th grade. When I got to the 11th grade, I realized that school is almost over and I would have to do something good for my future. I noticed my grades weren’t good, and realized I wanted to go to college to have a good future for myself. I had to step up my game. I still hang out with friends but I also find time to do some school work. Right now, I’m kind of stressing because I want to do a lot of stuff in a short amount of time. I want to do well in school, hang out with friends, play video games, learn how to play the piano, as well as other instruments, different languages, go to college, and also think about what I’m going to do later on in the future. It’s very stressful but hopefully not so much that I go crazy in the process of doing them.

Hi Brian, Thanks so much for opening up this discussion!

There can be so many issues distracting us from focusing on our goals for the future! But mutually loyal, supportive friendships are also extremely important and sometimes are exactly what we need to keep our courage up- especially if we have high aspirations to achieve things that will inspire and step up the game up for everyone…

Those are the rare friends that encourage us to keep digging deeper so that we can be all of who we want to be. Sometimes they even continue throughout our life, challenging us, creating with us, and finding solutions together with us- solutions that will also help others on this planet.

Wishing you all of that and more!

Hi Brian, You’re a good writer– and I say that as a former college writing instructor. Between your ability to write clearly and your catching up on your grades in 11th grade, you should be in a good position for college next year. Balancing schoolwork or work, friends and family, and hobbies is a lifelong challenge, believe me!
    best wishes!
