This Sunday at 9a the West Somerville area churches invite y’all to our olde, olde tradition of recalling Jesus’ paradoxically humble entry into Roman-occupied Jerusalem amidst the poor and disenfranchised, the People! The original grassroots act of guerilla theatre against the forces of economic and political oppression.
Which is all to say: bring your kids or friends, come prepared to feel silly, to wave palms, to sing your lungs out, and to pray seriously for our city. You need not be Christian to enjoy. The Donkey Walk (complete with Chester the Donkey, on loan from Heifer Project’s farm in Rutland, MA), will start at Powderhouse Park at 9a. We’ll sing, hear the gospel story for the day, march behind Chester and the First Church Marching Band to Davis Square, where we will pray prayers for the city: its new immigrants and longtime residents; its homeless, its families, singles; its students and elderly; its environmental health and vitality; its future. We’ll finish up by 9:40, in plenty of time for church or brunch
Co-Sponsoring churches include, but are not limited to:
First Church Somerville UCC
Unity Church of God
Church of the Nazarene
Community Baptist Church
