The days are lengthening and the sap will soon begin flowing. That’s right, it’s Maple Syrup Time! The Somerville Maple Syrup Project will be kicking off the 2009 season this Saturday, January 31st at 12pm!

We’ll be tapping the trees on Tufts Campus. Meet at the corner of College Ave and Professor’s Row on Tufts Campus. If you come after 12 pm, look for us on the hill in front of Tufts’ Main Library.

Learn how to tap a tree using an old- fashioned hand drill or a battery powered drill. Taste the first drop of sap that flows from the tree. See how Native Americans made spiles out of Sumac branches. Children are welcome to come and participate. Dress Warmly.

Mark your calendars for the Maple Syrup Boil Down, Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th, 2009 and watch our sap turn to syrup!
