When I play, I feel concentrated and sometimes nervous. I get motivated by my team mates. When I step on the field, I feel like everything around me is like a perfect dream. I can hear my heart beat. Everything in my mind just blows away and I get this tickling feeling inside of me that makes me so happy, a happiness that I have never had before.
For people who don’t know me, my name is Tony and I’m from El Salvador. I’ve played soccer since the age of six. I used to play with my friends in my free time. My father was a coach of a town team called “El Avion” (The Airplane), a team for adults. My father used to tell me what to do to be a great player. He taught me how to be disciplined. At the age of 10, my friend Tono and I were picked up play on a club team. We joined and my father trained my friend and me. It was such rough training that sometimes we felt like quitting, but my father told us that if we wanted something, we would have to fight for it.
We got better until there was only one player on the team better than us—a kid named Jose.
The name of the team was “Futbol Club Aguila Junior.” It was one of the best clubs in the city. Only good players join these kinds of clubs, but we did it. It wasn’t that easy, but that’s what happens when you work hard for something that you want!

Tony, Have you heard of the Blast club team? That’s the one my son’s friends have played on.
Where does your club practice and play? How many teams are in your league? Would you like to be on the Revolution some day? I hope you can find the time to reply. Somerville is getting to be a big soccer city! Cheers, Linda Conte
