Just in case you do not have time to read through all of the notices posted on the video bulletin board on local cable channel 16, here is a preview of some of the interesting events happening in the Somerville Public Schools. All events listed here are free and open to the public.

Thursday, October 23rd from 5:30-7:30 PM at the West Somerville Neighborhood School – the Massachusetts Association of School Committees is hosting an education policy forum featuring the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Dan Mitchell Chester. Members of the public are invited to listen, but only members of MASC can actively participate.

Thursday, October 23rd from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Capuano Early Childhood Center the Special Education Parent Advisory Council and the Somerville Community Partnership for Children are hosting a parent/guardian workshop called “From Power Play to Powerful Play: Transforming Superheroes.” Featuring Bob Rivera-Dowling and Aimee Ellingwood participants will explore how and why children are drawn to superhero play, examine children’s exploration of power and control, and learn ideas and techniques to support this type of play in safe ways that encourage learning.

Saturday, October 25th from 10:00-11:30 AM in the Cafeteria at Somerville High School the Superintendent will host a conversation with members of the community about the Massachusetts Expanded Learning Time Initiative.

Monday, October 27th beginning at 6:30 PM at the Capuano Early Childhood Center the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SPED PAC) will be screening Labeled Disabled, a documentary film about how children come to understand disabilities.

Thursday, October 30th from 2:45-6:00 PM in the Atrium at Somerville High School is the sign up period for students wishing to play a winter sport for Somerville High School. There is no fees to play sports for Somerville High School, but pre-registration is required. Winter sports played at Somerville High School are:
Boys and Girls Basketball
Boys and Girls Ice Hockey
Boys and Girls Indoor Track
Co-ed Swim.
