You may not have heard, but a developer is planning a Level Three biotech lab in Cambridge , to test toxic gases and other intriguing Cantabridgian products. What’s particularly interesting and notable to Somerville is that such items cannot be legally transported through tunnels, so, if they come from the airport, they come through Somerville . Nobody in Somerville seems to have noticed, but such a lab could kill your kids. Level Three labs are legitimate alternate testing sites for Level Four substances on occasion, and lack only the security conditions for that higher status.

Given that we now know it was a maniac at a Level Four facility who was behind the post-9/11 postage threats, perhaps there is some interest in building another one so close in this densest set of towns on the East Coast.

The meeting is on August 12, at 7:00pm, at the Cambridge Kennedy School in East Cambridge . The East Cambridge Planning Team has not accepted any motions to reject the lab – for reasons that, I suppose, will be apparent at their meeting – but they may listen to Somerville residents if we are very nice.

It would be great to hear how the meeting went. Did anyone attend? How would we contact the planning team to get meeting notes?
