This morning’s Charter Advisory Meeting

by Greg Nadeau in Government Reform - Posted on August 6, 2008 at 10:52 am

I attended another positive, constructive Charter Advisory Meeting this morning. Discussion focused on the Board of Aldermen structure (elections, terms, make up, selection of president).

Proportional representation and other changes that could increase participation and representation were discussed. All agreed that increased participation and representation are a top goal for any changes.

The book “The Adapted City” was handed out.

It was agreed that written testimony would be accepted in September and that public hearings would be held after that.

I encourage people to begin the discussion through this site and refine your thinking before submitting written testimony.

What is working well in the current structure?

What changes should be made?

Thanks for keeping us informed, Greg N. What is the schedule for the Charter Advisory Meetings and are they open to the public? Do you know when and where the September meeting will be held? How does one submit written testimony?

  2. Greg says:

Also, could you tell us who all the members of the Advisory Commission are?

You contact Lesley Hawkins [LHawkins(at)somervillema.gov] for a list of members, meeting dates, and opportunities for public participation.
