New technology at Somerville Community Access Television means better video and show playback for all our Somerville viewers. Just a few months ago we stopped playing back our producers programs from SVHS, VHS and DVD’s. Just like the big broadcast guys we now play back our entire schedule through a computer server that can hold many terrabytes of video and allows us to schedule everything we do down to the second. Now, in addition to that, we have (finally) upgraded our fifteen year old studio cameras to brand new JVC Hi def capable gy-hd250s. The video these things put out is awesome. Just another reason that Somerville Community Access Television (SCAT) has won nationwide awards and remains a leader in the New England access television marketplace.
Oh, and before I forget… I was reading an article and comments in another blog. Seems some folks were upset that SCAT had low audio in a City Council meeting, and another complained that the playback of a music concert from the music department in the school system cut off unexpectedly in mid-play. While I sympathize with these folks, I want to point out plainly that the programs were not being cablecast by SCAT. Here in Somerville we have three channels available to our residents through the Comcast and RCN cable systems. Our channel (SCAT) is channel 3. The other two channels are the Government and Education Channels. We cablecast programs produced by Somerville residents. The Government channel covers all things governmental and the Education channel cablecasts Somerville Schools oriented programming.
