If you listen to a local NPR radio station like me, you’ve probably heard segments of Living on Earth with Steve Curwood, a program on the environment and environmental policy. After listening to this week’s show, I picked up on the fact that they broadcast from a studio in Davis Square, right down the hall from the office of the Somerville Journal, at 20 Holland Street Suite 408 to be exact.
Background from the Living on Earth website:
Living on Earth with Steve Curwood is the weekly environmental news and information program distributed by Public Radio International. Every week approximately 300 Public Radio stations broadcast Living on Earth’s news, features, interviews and commentary on a broad range of ecological issues. The show airs in 9 of the 10 top radio markets and reaches 80% of the US.
Local references to the show:
- Here’s a video interview of Steve Curwood by Somerville Journal reporter Steve Bagley.
- Here’s a link to Davis Square Live Journal for a post about how Go Green Davis Square was featured on the show on March 16th, 2008.
- LOE sponsored last year’s SomerGreen exhibition as announced in this City of Somerville press release on May 3, 2007 about the Annual City Cleanup.
Just think how many people around the country listen to the show each week and hear the reference to Somerville! That must be huge!

I used to listen to NPR, but the news seemed a little too biased and I didn’t have my tinfoil hat on to keep pace. Sadly, it’s the only station on FM that delivers any news at all, but it is a crime that our tax dollars goes to fund a media outlet that is so left of center and slanted. Congress should pull all funding for NPR and all public radio/tv and let them stand on their own.
Right now, the only station that delivers fair and balanced news is FOX. MSNBC is a joke (Kieth Olbermann ought to be hung for treason) and CNN is not that far behind. With FOX at least they give the news and then allow us to decide — they’re not sticking their damn opinions in and slanting the news every chance they get (ala MSNBC).
So, FOX and then FREE REPUBLIC for me for my news and information.
Anyone else?

Imux, NPR is conservative, “fair and balanced” and very safe to be influenced by; and yes, they have a liberal bias. Some people feel good about being “informed”, as if knowing about issues is an end in itself. If you have critical thinking you can get good info. from many sources, but to think that you get unbiased info. from “FOX”…you’ve got to be kind of brainwashed. “Fox” presents the Republican view/bias and is skewed to keep paranoia and prejudices high. The “Demoblicans and Republicrats” have our country tied in knots and the other two headed monster, the media, is owned and controlled by corporations that hide profits offshore, like so many politicians…while they berate us to be patriotic.
You must be around 20 years old and you’ve latched on to “FOX” cause their message makes you feel strong and right, but they are just sucking you in to the vapidness.
